Paria: Talks Ongoing Regarding Compensation For Divers’ Families

By Newsroom

Nearly six months after a Commission of Enquiry report into the February 2022 diving tragedy was handed over to the President, the Paria Fuel Trading Company says it continues to work with attorneys representing the families of four deceased divers regarding compensation, as well as the lone survivor, Christopher Boodram.

Paria clarified that it had not been in direct contact with the families, communicating only through attorneys representing them in the matter.

The company said the claims for compensation require a balanced approach including LMCS as the divers’ employer, as well as taking into account insurance coverage considerations.

“Paria is acutely aware of the pain, grief and financial hardship suffered by the families of the deceased divers and Mr Boodram as a result of the tragic events that occurred on 25 February 2022. Paria is exploring all available options as to how it can provide support to the families of the victims and Mr Boodram,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.

It added: “The process of addressing claims for compensation requires a considered and balanced approach, taking into account all relevant stakeholders, including LMCS, the employer of the impacted divers, as well as factoring in insurance coverage considerations. To deviate from that process would not assist any interested parties and would more than likely lead to a delay in finding a resolution”
