Parliaments meets on Monday: PM Gets Advice on Reopening The Country on Friday

By Newsroom

By the end of this week, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley will meet with public health officials to get scientific advice on whether any part of the system should be reopened.“It will take us back to the stone age if we reopen the country at this stage,” Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said on Tuesday morning when he reported on what the PM intends to do. “Any talk of the opening is premature and will feed into a narrative in the public that is contrary to what we are trying to do which is to keep people at home to prevent community spread,” Deyalsingh insisted.

A sitting of the House of Representatives has been called for next Monday at 1:30 pm. Under the COVID-19 Pandemic Parliament will cater for social distancing for MPs where some will be seated in the  Chamber, others will be seated in various committee and meeting rooms with screens to view the proceedings. If they need to vote, those MPs who are not seated in the Chamber will be allowed a few minutes to get to the chamber to cast their votes and then return to their seats.
