“Pay Your Electricity Bill,” T&TEC Pleads With Customers

By Newsroom

T&TEC customers whose accounts are in arrears are being urged to pay their electricity bill.

The call comes from head of the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, Kelvin Ramsook, as he appeared on a Joint Select Committee of Parliament  on Thursday morning.

Those who are in a financial bind and are unable to get up to date with payments, can reach out to the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission to find out about its ‘Utilities Assistance Program’.

“We are making every effort and we are encouraging our customers to pay their bills; Given the nature of the business it is absolutely necessary that we accept our monies,” Ramsook said.

He was then asked by JSC Member Saddam Hosein, whether T&TEC would undertake a disconnection exercise similar to the one by the Water and Sewereage Authority.

“Well, I don’t want to say yes and I don’t want to say no… at this stage we are encouraging our customers to pay their bills,” Ramsook answered.

Meanwhile, T&TEC is offering an amnesty for customers who are running an illegal electricity supply in their homes.

Mr. Ramsook said this kind of activity is a major safety hazard, and also costs T&TEC money.

He assures that those who come in to have the proper connection arranged will not be retroactively charged for their illegal supply.
