Penny To Look At Making State Housing More Accessible For Low Income Families

By Newsroom

As she takes up her new post as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Peneleope Beckles is hoping to strike a balance in the distribution of homes, making state housing more easily accessible to low-income families or single-parent households.

At a press briefing following the swearing-in of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet on Wednesday, Ms. Beckles, who left her position as T&T Ambassador to the United Nations to return to local politics, said while she is yet to immerse herself in the existing policies and practices at the Ministry, she is excited to be in a position to make an impact in the lives of people.

Referencing her time as the UN, she says housing ought to be treated as a basic human right, creating a “safe space” for those in need.
