Four suspected bandits were shot dead by police in south Trinidad on Monday night.

The incident happened after the suspects shot and killed two security guards at the Pennywise compound in Bel-Air.

A third guard is listed in critical condition.

Acting Police Commissioner Mc Donald Jacob says the men fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, later abandoning that car and robbing someone else of their vehicle before attempting to hideout at a house in La Romaine.

The men allegedly shot at the officers, prompting them to return fire.

Commissioner Jacob says three AR-15 rifles and one pistol were recovered from the suspects.

Investigations are continuing.
