Phillip Alexander Forced To Issue Public Apology After Making False Gambling Claim

By Newsroom

Political Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party Phillip Alexander has found himself in hot waters for his words once more, leading to a defamation suit from Minister in the Ministry of Finance, San Fernando East MP Brian Manning.

The latest in Alexander’s string of defamation suits arose out of false statements he made in a video broadcasted on his social media page, in which he accused the government minister of having a “chronic” gambling problem.

Alexander’s attorneys managed to reach a settlement with Mr. Manning’s attorney, requiring him to issue a public apology and retraction, in addition to removing the video from his platform.

In the video, posted to Facebook, Alexander said: “That statement was wrong and caused distress and irreparable damage to the reputation of Mr. Manning…and that is regretted.”
