There will be zero tolerance for anyone found in possession of a weapon intended for crime.

“There will be checkpoints coming into all the major carnival areas and cannot convince a cop you are going to carnival event with a weapon,” DCP Jayson Forde told the weekly police news briefing on Wednesday.

“We are here for safety and security so please, please, please leave your weapons at home. We have enough tasers and pepper spray to maintain law and order,” he added.

“We have a record of having a safe carnival and we intend to keep that track record safe and sound. “We want masqueraders, bystanders spectators, business people and other users of the road to know that  all streets will be lined with police officers.

“We are also going to have SORT officers patrolling along with air support from specially imported drones,” DCP Forde further explained

“The seafront will be patrolled by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard (TTCG) supported by the Chaguaramas Development Authority.

“We have identified that we have more than 100 carnival activities scattered throughout T&T and have imported enough drones to cover Port of Spain, San Fernando and Chaguanas and environs, “DCP  Forde said.

“We are here to provide security for you to enjoy yourself, we are not here to persecute you,” the  Deputy Commissioner explained.
