PM Andrew Holness Proposes Christmas, Boxing Day Curfews In Jamaica

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness isn’t depending on moral suasion to maintain social distancing practices during the upcoming Christmas season- he’s enforcing it. 

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Holness announced a proposed curfew to be out in place for Christmas and Boxing Day, which will require all Jamaicans to be indoors between the hours of 7pm, ending at 5am the following days. 

Press Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister in Jamaica, Naomi Francis explained that the move would mean movement will only be permitted between 5am and 7pm on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

PM Holness also outlined restrictions to be imposed for the rest of the year. View his address in the clip below:

 

PM Holness stated that following Christmas and Boxing Day, “keeping the curfew at 10 pm will depend on all of us taking personal responsibility to observe the protocols.”

To date, Jamaica has recorded a total of 10,343 coronavirus cases and 239 deaths.
