PM Dr. Keith Rowley has announced that he will chair a Committee which is tasked with developing a Post COVID-19 Road Map To Recovery. The Committee will include former Finance Ministers Wendell Mottley, and Winston Dookeran.

The announcement was made during the Post-Cabinet press briefing held earlier today April 16th. Dr. Rowley also announced that the Government has been making adjustments along the way to stop the spread of COVID-19 and that if any more measures are to be implemented, they will be revealed before April 30th, which is when the measures in the current Public Health Ordinance come to an end.

On the issue of the SEA EXAMS this year Dr. Rowley said: “This is where we have to let our anxiety be tempered by the science and let the decisions be made by the science and by the Public Health experts who give us the best advice available, and that is the advice the Government takes.”

The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of declaring a State of Emergency. He said: “What does a State of Emergency bring to this fight? It brings additional powers for the police. It brings a reduction in your rights and privileges under the Constitution. That’s all. Nothing else, because what you have to do to respond to the virus will not change.”

During the briefing Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh also confirmed receiving the report from the Eastern Regional Health Authority on the selection of the Sangre Grande Step Down Facility. He said the information has been passed on  the Ministry’s Legal Department.
