PM: I Have My Court Clothes Ready For PNM Election Challenge

By Newsroom

Responding to a lawsuit challenging the legality of the PNM’s upcoming three-day internal elections, Prime Minister and PNM political leader Dr Keith Rowley says he has his court clothes ready, adding he is confident the party could defend its election decision.

Dr. Rowley made the comments while speaking at a PNM Women’s meeting in Maracas Valley/St. Joseph last night.

“I came away with one shirt, I bought it and I put it on,” he said, joking that he had bought his courthouse clothes.

“These are my courthouse clothes because I have every confidence that there’s no question that the court could ask the PNM but we can’t answer, none,” he added.

In a lawsuit filed by Karen Nunez-Teshiera, attorney Peter Taylor argues that the decision to hold a three-day voting process for the party’s upcoming internal election was “equivalent to an amendment of the Constitution, which authority the Central Executive does not possess.”

PNM internal elections are carded to take place on November 26th, 27th and December 4th and will see Dr. Keith Rowley being challenged for leadership by Nunez-Teshiera and two other candidates.
