PM: “No Position For Me To Take On Special Branch Report”

By Newsroom

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has said a Special Branch police report is no form of evidence before a court of law, but rather intelligence requiring investigation.

He spoke in response to the Opposition leaking a police report last week, which alleged that Youth Development Minister Foster Cummings was the subject of a police investigation for land fraud and interactions with gang leaders.

Dr. Rowley was clear to say during today’s Post Cabinet media briefing that he’s not defending the minister, but rather there’s no firm evidence which he should act on.

The Prime Minister said, “I can only deal with investigated proof. As of today, I have seen nothing to confirm what the UNC is waving on that platform.”

“How do you expect the Prime Minister to act on a matter that has not been confirmed or substantiated? The allegations are in the right place; they are with the police. And if the police cannot confirm any of it to me, what am I supposed to act on?”

The Prime Minister said it was reckless for the Opposition Leader, who is a former Prime Minister, to treat the information contained in the Special Branch report in this manner.

He added, “If I was not a responsible Prime Minister and I wanted to play that game with them I could bring the Special Branch reports that I have and we could have one big bacchanal.”

The Prime Minister again stated, “if any member of my Government has a problem with the law, then the law must take its course.”
