PM: Prospective Buyers For Petrotrin Refinery To Offer Final Submissions Tomorrow

By Newsroom

The government will receive final submissions from four potential buyers for the Petrotrin refinery tomorrow, December 15th.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley in the Lower House on Monday.

After submissions are in, there will be an evaluation process and a buyer likely chosen.

It comes after government returned to the open market this year, having turned down the Patriotic Energies and Technologies Ltd- the company whole owned by the OWTU- on three separate occasions.

Asked to reveal the names of the buyers, Dr. Keith Rowley said he did not have any information as to who the proposed buyers were.

Naparima MP Rodney Charles asked whether Patriotic Energies and Technologies Ltd-  was among the list of potential buyers. However, the Prime Minister only reiterated that he had no available information on who the proposed buyers were at this point.

The Opposition MP then asked whether government was concerned about whether the equipment was still in good condition, since the refinery was shut down in 2018.

“To the best of my knowledge the owner of the refinery has been taking steps as best as it could to preserve the equipment. The equipment will be in the best condition available . And it is precisely because of that we have moved with alacrity to be in a position today to inform the House that we have four interested parties looking at the possible future of this piece of equipment,” the Prime Minister said.
