PM Rowley, President Ali To Engage In Talks Today

Bilateral talks will be held this morning between Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who arrived in Trinidad on Wednesday afternoon.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet at the Diplomatic Centre in St. Ann’s.at 10am on Thursday, after which they will host a joint media conference.

President Ali will remain in Trinidad until Sunday. 

His visit follows a similar one paid by Dr. Rowley to Guyana back in May. 

Dr. Rowley was attending a regional meeting on Agriculture. 

That meeting saw both leaders signing a Memorandum of understanding, as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations. 

The Parties agreed to cooperate in a number of areas including:

-Encouraging cooperation and joint action between enterprises in their respective countries

-Pursuing enhanced cooperation in agriculture and food security, security, energy, infrastructure, trade and investment, including addressing non-tariff barriers and other impediments to the flow of goods and services between them, and any other areas, as may be determined, to contribute towards sustainable and resilient development of the two countries, and to the advancement of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy;

-Promoting cooperation in the areas of sports and culture.
