The Ministry of Health has noted an uptick in Covid-19 infections in young children, with three children currently hospitalized with serious symptoms from the virus. 

This was revealed by Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards during Saturday’s Covid-19 media briefing.

Dr. Abdool-Richards declined to provide the specific ages of the children, citing patient confidentiality.

“We can say that they are being taken care of at the hospitals in the SWRHA,” she said.

Asked whether genomic sequencing is being done from the samples of children testing positive for the Delta variant, the PMO confirmed that it is.
