Police Academy To Launch Degree in Policing

The Police Academy has unveiled plans for the launch of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Policing. According to the TTPPS, the degree will be an academic programme designed to strengthen professional development and advance law enforcement education. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, Police Academy – which is the first of its kind to become registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago is set to once again blaze a new trail.

In a statement, the TTPS added:
“The exciting initiative is being spearheaded by Ms. Nicole Robinson, Dean, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Simon Alexis, Provost of the Police Academy. It directly supports the TTPS Strategic Plan 2025–2027.

Strategic Priority #2: Organizational Development, with a focus on Outcome #5: Enhanced Professional Development, which seeks to increase employee satisfaction with training opportunities.

On 22nd July, 2025, a special stakeholder session was held to present the vision, needs assessment results, curriculum framework, and proposed implementation strategy for the programme. The session also included the viewing of the History of the Police Academy video, produced by the Library and Information Services Unit.

Distinguished attendees included; Deputy Commissioner of Police Natasha George ( feature Speaker) , Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Andre Norton, Provost, Police Academy Dr. Simon Alexis, Senior Superintendent, Police Academy Ian Carty, Ms. Jocelyn Hughes, Border Security Affairs Specialist and Training Coordinator, CARICOM IMPACS, Dr. Ayinka Nurse-Carrington, Criminologist Educator, Mr. Avenash Ramsoobhag, Manager, Occupational Standards and Sector Support, National Training Agency, Ms. Keel County, National Drug Council.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Natasha George was elated that one of the Police Service Strategic Items would be realized. Provost Dr. Simon Alexis described the initiative as “a milestone in policing education in Trinidad and Tobago, equipping officers with advanced skills for the evolving law enforcement landscape.”

Dean Nicole Robinson added that “the Bachelor’s in Policing will open new academic and professional pathways and strengthen TTPS’s commitment to lifelong learning.” The new degree programme will serve as a model for the region, advancing policing professionalism and building stronger, well-informed communities.”
