Nine people have been arrested for various offences and three firearms and quantities of ammunition were seized by officers during ongoing anti-crime exercises across several Divisions yesterday.
According to the TTPS, in the Southern Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise around 10:30 pm, on Thursday 15th May 2024, during which they intercepted a motor vehicle with two male occupants along Ghandi Village, Debe.
A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding a pistol loaded with a magazine. The two suspects, ages 35 and 28, both of Debe, were arrested in connection with the find.
Meanwhile, Task Force officers also conducted an exercise around 5:45 am yesterday, during which they intercepted a white Tiida motor vehicle with eight occupants. One of the occupants was found to have a revolver loaded with three rounds of ammunition in his possession following a search of the vehicle.
The 27-year-old St. Joseph man was arrested in connection with the find.
In the Eastern Division, officers were on mobile patrol in the Valencia district around 8:30 pm, yesterday, when they observed a male suspect throwing an object under a vehicle parked along the roadway.
One pistol loaded with a magazine containing 10 rounds of ammunition was subsequently found under the vehicle. The suspect, a 40-year-old man of the area was arrested in connection with the find.
In the Mayaro district, Criminal Investigations Department officers along with the Canine Unit proceeded to various locations between 2 am and 4 am yesterday.
As a result of their searches, a 26-year-old Mayaro man was held for possession of six rounds of ammunition and resisting arrest. Additionally, four migrants who were in the country illegally were
detained and the Immigration authorities were informed. Investigations are ongoing into all the above matters.
