Police Destroy Ganja Field Worth $2.3 Million in Moruga

The TTPS has destroyed a cannabis plantation consisting of approximately 2,000 plants inclusive of full grown trees and 30 kilograms of cured cannabis was destroyed by police officers in Moruga on Friday April 11th, 2025.

According to a police statement, in a coordinated effort to suppress the cultivation and distribution of illegal narcotics, officers of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) carried out a successful Cannabis Eradication Operation yesterday, in the forested region along Trial Road, Moruga.

The operation, which took place between the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., was spearheaded by the SIU Jungle Operations Team, under the command of ACP Teewarie, and included personnel from the Air Support Unit, the Southern Division Task Force, and the Southern Division Gang Unit.

During the course of the operation, officers hiked approximately five (5) kilometers into dense forest where they discovered and destroyed: A drying house containing approximately 30 kilograms of cured cannabis, and a cultivated field spanning approximately two lots of land, containing an estimated 2,000 fully grown cannabis plants.

The seized and destroyed narcotics carry an estimated street value of TT$2.3 million. The illegal infrastructure and crops were destroyed by fire, in keeping with TTPS narcotics disposal protocols. The TTPS remains committed to its mandate to disrupt and dismantle all forms of illegal drug activity across Trinidad and Tobago.

Investigations are ongoing.
