Police arrested two suspects and seized a firearm and quantities of cannabis during ongoing anti-crime operations conducted across the country yesterday.

According to the TTPS, in the first operation, officers of the Couva Police Station conducted an exercise around 12 noon on Thursday, 8th January, 2026, during which they proceeded to Martha Street.

Based on intelligence, the officers conducted a comprehensive search in the vicinity of a chain link fence, which resulted in the discovery of one revolver, loaded with a quantity of ammunition. In the Northern Division, Task Force officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in the Northern and North-Eastern Divisions yesterday, during which they proceeded to an abandoned
structure at Boy’s Lane, D’Abadie.

There, they conducted a search, which resulted in the discovery of a black plastic bag containing 1.8 kilogrammes of cannabis. The exercise was coordinated by W/Snr. Supt. Maynard-Wilson, Supt. Mc Kenzie and ASP Ablacksingh.

Meanwhile, in the South Western Division, officers of the Special Response Unit conducted an exercise between 5 pm and 8 pm, on Wednesday 7th January, 2026, during which they proceeded to the Cap-de-Ville district.

There, they intercepted a motor vehicle with two male occupants and conducted a search. The search resulted in the discovery of 26.5 kilogrammes of cannabis, with an estimated street value of one million dollars.

The two male suspects were arrested in connection with the find. The operation was spearheaded by ACP Hazel. In the Eastern Division, a cannabis eradication exercise was conducted between 6 am and 2 pm on Thursday, 8th January 2026, involving personnel of the Gang and Intelligence Unit, the Special Investigations Unit, the Task Force, the Air Support Unit, the Drone Team and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force Special Forces.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to the Biche district, where they trekked several kilometres into a treacherous, densely forested and swampy area. There, they discovered two cannabis grow-houses, with 6,000 fully grown cannabis trees.

The grow houses were outfitted with a sophisticated irrigation system and solar panels. A large quantity of fertiliser was also found at the scene.

The trees, with an estimated street value of six million dollars, were destroyed, along with the irrigation and electrical systems. The operation was coordinated by Snr. Supt. Edwards, Snr. Supt. Paponette, Supt. Etienne, ASP Morales and Insp. Nixon.
