A police officer and a pedestrian were injured during a shooting incident in Tunapuna yesterday. According to a statement from the TTPS, around 7:45 p.m. on Monday, 9th February, 2026, officers attached to the North Central Division were on mobile patrol in a marked police vehicle along Maingot and Fairley Streets, Tunapuna, when they responded to a report of an assault of a woman.

After making enquiries at the home of the person alleged to be the perpetrator in the reported incident, the officers were returning to their police vehicle, which was parked across Fairley Street, when several loud explosions were heard.

The officers observed two armed assailants emerge from a nearby yard and open fire in their direction. No. 21893 PC Phillip was struck by projectiles and sustained injuries in his right leg and back. The officers took cover and returned fire in their defence. The two assailants subsequently escaped.

Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro and DCP Operations, Suzette Martin, immediately visited the injured police officer and the injured pedestrian, who are in a stable condition and currently receiving medical care at a health facility.
