Police shoot and kill YTC Escapee

Police have shot and killed an escaped prisoner, who has been identified as BRIAN SEEPERSAD. The shooting occurred during an exercise conducted in the North-Eastern Division today.

According to a police statement on the incident:

“Around12:30pm on Monday 16th March, 2020, officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) were conducting an exercise in the Morvant area relative to escapee Brian Seepersad. The officers proceeded to a premises at 2nd Caledonia Extension, Movant, and upon entering the premises, the suspect pointed a firearm and fired in the direction of the officers. Given the imminent threat to their lives, the officers returned fire in the direction of the said suspect in an effort to disarm him.”

The firearm was recovered and the wounded suspect was then conveyed to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he died. He was one of five prisoners who escaped from the Youth Training Centre on Thursday 3rd October 2019, the other four escapees have all since been recaptured.
