By Newsroom

Delays at the port have come to a resolve, after the Customs and Excise Division worked through the teething problems in rolling out the new electronic clearance app, ASCYUDA 4.2.2.

This is according to Finance Minister Colm Imbert, who told the Senate this afternoon that the benefits of the new system cannot be understated, suggesting the hiccups are worth the long term benefit.

“There were teething problems and the business community did reach out to me and to other officers of Customs. I’m advised that most of the teething problems. However, the benefits of ASCYUDA 4.2.2 are significant and in particular, the question of improved transparency and real time information cannot be understated,” Imbert said said.

The Finance Minister was responding to a question posed by Opposition Senator, Wade Mark, who, in stating his question in the Upper House, claimed the matter had been affecting businesses for some two weeks.

This was corrected by Minister Imbert, who pointed out that the system was only operationalized on January 4th, eight days ago.
