THA Election Recounts Temporarily Halted Due To Islandwide Power Outage

By Newsroom

Power has been restored across Tobago after the island experienced an outage shortly before 9 o clock this morning.

The Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission, T&TEC, says the cut in supply was due to a tripped transformer during maintenance works at the Cove Power Plant.

Customers were without power from between 20 minutes to one hour before the matter was resolved.

Meanwhile, election recounts are ongoing in Tobago, following Monday’s THA elections which saw a deadlock between the People’s National Movement and the Progressive Democratic Patriots.

The counting of ballots was briefly interrupted by this morning’s power outage, however T&TEC says priority restoration was given to the Calder Hall and Glen Road locations where the counts are being conducted.
