Prominent streets in Scarborough and other landmarks will be renamed this Friday, in honour of local icons who have significantly helped in shaping the island’s history and legacy.
It is part of the planned activities as Tobago gears up for the staging of this year’s Carnival celebrations.
The THA has named eight icons who will be honoured on Friday;
1. McCartha Linda Sandy-Lewis, known as ‘Calypso Rose’; 2. Bertille StClair; 3. Allan Richards; 4. The late, Winston Bailey, known as ‘The Mighty Shadow’; 5. The late, James A.A. Biggart; 6. The late Dr. Jacob Delworth Elder; 7. The late Aloysius Morean; and 8. The late Edna Morean.
Infrastructure Secretary, Trevor James said it is crucially important to pay homage to those that have inspired us over the years. “Tobago, does not only have a proud heritage but also a collection of legends that have made their marks on the international stage; and psyche of what it means to be Tobagonian. We are a great people deserving of honour, and as an Executive and citizenry, we owe it to them to recollect, recognize and celebrate, as a joint expression of gratitude, and for younger ones to see and be inspired as well,” James said.
