Prison Officer Arrested With Contraband

By Newsroom

Prison Officer Clyde Noel Baird was arrested and taken into custody after allegedly being found in possession of contraband during a routine search at the Carrera Convict Prison.

Investigators seized a quantity of plant-like material, loose cigarettes and packets of wrapping paper hidden in juice cans, together with packets of cigarettes, an undisclosed sum of cash, disposable shavers, a phone and two chargers.

The officer was cautioned that he was in breach of regulations. The Police were contacted and the responding Police Officers escorted him to the Police Station where he is assisting with enquiries.

Commissioner of Prisons, Mr. Dennis Pulchan stated that there was never a doubt that the measures implemented to challenge trafficking by officers, would be ineffective. He added that one by one, they would be identified, apprehended, and removed from the system, as they are counterproductive and place an immense strain on rehabilitative initiatives, their dedicated fellow officers, and the organization.
