Prison Commissioner Condemns Brazen Attack As Second Prison Officer Ambushed In Three Days

By Newsroom

In just a matter of three days, a second member of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service has been shot and killed.

Prison officer Nigel Jones, the father of a three year old girl, was standing along High Street in Siparia waiting on transport at around 2:35pm on Monday, when he was brazenly ambushed by gunmen.

The incident is, at present, under investigation by the Homicide Department, Region 3.

Officer Jones’ colleague, Trevor Serette, was gunned down in a similar manner in Valencia days before on Friday.

Both Jones and Serrette were assigned to duties at the Wayne Jackson Building at the Maximum Security Building in Arouca.

Prison Commissioner Dennis Pulchan has condemned the attacks, as he lamented that his hard working officers are being killed for doing their jobs.

He added that measures must be revisited and enforced to treat with these brutal acts and those commissioning them, that leave families and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Prison Service distraught.

Commissioner Pulchan concluded by stating that he hopes that Law Enforcement Agencies leave no stone unturned in bringing these cold blooded murderers to justice.

He is also reminding all staff members to be extremely vigilant and cautious, particularly when off duty.
