Public Utilities Minister: “Dr. Sealy’s Exit From WASA Due To Personal Reasons”

By Newsroom

Pressed to provide further details about the sudden resignation of Dr. Lennox Sealy as WASA’s Executive Director, Public Utilities Minister Marvin Gonazales committed only to reading out the letter sent to him by Dr. Sealy in the House of Representatives on Friday afternoon.

“I wish to inform you of my resignation from the positions of Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of the Water and Sewerage Authority, due to personal circumstances. My resignation is effective today, July 8th, 2021,” Gonzales read into the Hansard in response to an Urgent Question posed by Couva South MP, Rudranath Indarsingh.

Asked whether there was a cover-up, Minister Gonzales accused MP Indarsingh of an inability to understand English, offering to read the contents of Dr. Sealy’s resignation letter again.

Mr. Indarsingh then stood up, declaring he is asking because “I know how this government operates.”

But he was stopped by House Speaker Brigid Annisette George, who reminded him that period for Urgent Questions did not permit Opposition MPs to make statements.

In response to a supplemental, Minister Gonzales said the rest of the board at WASA remains in place, refuting the Opposition’s assertion that there was a management crisis.
