Recounts Of Elections Results Complete, PNM Retains 22-19 Victory

The country is one step closer to seeing the swearing in of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet, as recounts of ballots from last Monday’s general election were finally completed on Monday afternoon, with the St. Joseph constituency being confirmed as a win for the People’s National Movement, by a margin of 811 votes.

Below are the preliminary results for all five constituencies for which the United National Congress requested recounts:

La Horquetta/Talparo (Victory Margin 2,094)

PNM: 9,391 (Foster Cummings)

UNC: 7,297 (Jearlean John)

San Fernando West (Victory Margin 1,695)

PNM: 8,449 (Faris Al Rawi)

UNC: 6,754 (Sean Sobers)

St. Joseph (Victory Margin- 811)

PNM: 9,354 (Terrence Deyalsingh

UNC: 8,543 (Alhoy Hunt)

Toco/Sangre Grande (Victory Margin 3,391)

PNM: 10,694 (Roger Monroe)

UNC: 7,303 (Nabila Greene)

Tunapuna (Victory Margin 1,927)

PNM: 9,460 (Esmond Forde)

UNC: 7,533 (David Nakhid)

The process dictates that the Elections and Boundaries Commission must now release the official count of votes, and formally notify President Paula Mae-Weekes of the declared winner.
