Recovered Covid-19 Patients Can Get Vaccine Three Months Post Infection, CMO Announces

In a new policy move announced on Wednesday, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Parasram says persons who have recovered from Covid-19 in Trinidad and Tobago can now be vaccinated against the virus as early as three months post recovery, instead of the World Health Organization’s guide of six months.

Dr. Parasram made the announcement during Wednesday’s Covid-19 media briefing.

He further explained, “So, if you had your first dose, you get infected, you wait three months post infection. If you have no doses, you wait three months post infection as well.”

Meanwhile, consideration is being given to adjusting another national policy, which excludes pregnant and lactating mothers from being eligible for vaccination

Noting that there is limited information to show how vaccines affect a fetus or babies, Dr. Parasram said the Ministry of Health will decide by the end of the week whether it will expand the vaccination pool to allow pregnant and lactating mothers a chance to receive the shot.

According to guidelines from the World Health Organization, Covid-19 vaccines for this group of women is approved and deemed to be safe.
