Sahara Dust Intensifies

By Newsroom

A dense plume of Saharan Dust is moving across Trinidad, Tobago and the remainder of the Eastern Caribbean and air quality has already begun to decrease across the region, with a rapid deterioration of air quality expected by nightfall.

Peak concentrations will occur Wednesday into Thursday. This surge of dust will be accompanied by an overall increase in wind speeds which is forecast to agitate sea conditions in open waters.

The air quality will also be reduced to levels that are unhealthy for sensitive groups in Trinidad and Tobago.

Across the Eastern Caribbean, air quality alerts, bulletins, and advisories are in effect for several islands.

In Trinidad and Tobago, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service has issued several social media posts concerning the approaching Saharan Dust, but there are no alerts watches or warnings in effect for the country.
