Sankar: I Haven’t Crossed Floors To PNM

By Newsroom

UNC Councillor Samuel Sankar says his attendance at a PNM political meeting in Chaguanas was in no means an indicator that he has crossed the political divide.

Instead, the Kelly Village/Warrenville  Local Government representative says he attended the meeting in Chaguanas to communicate to the Prime Minister, the problems in his area.

“Tuesday was an opportunity to go and ask my queries about my area, which needs help… If the Prime Minister can’t help me, nobody can,” Sankar said.

The UNC Councillor said he had hoped Tuesday’s meeting included an open floor for questions- as with the ‘Conversations with the Prime Minister’ format.

Nonetheless he did speak briefly with the Prime Minister, and hopes the two can meet for talks in the future, based on Dr. Rowley’s availability.

Sankar confirmed he has not resigned his membership with the UNC- though higher ups in the party said they have taken note of his attendance.

At Tuesday’s PNM meeting, which was broadcast live, Councillor Sankar was publicly welcomed to the party by Minister in the Office of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Legal Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, Renuka Sagramsingh-Sooklalsingh.

“Councillor Sankar has left the rising sun and he is here tonight- I am pronouncing it- he is here tonight to see what the PNM has to offer. Councillor Sankar, I say to you- welcome to the People’s National Movement. Bring your family, bring your friends; this is a party that speaks about unity. This is a party for all people and we welcome you tonight,” Minister Sagramsingh-Sooklalsingh said.

Sankar first raised eyebrows back in August, when he defied a call from the Opposition Leader to boycott the Ministry of Local Government’s meeting with Councillors.
