Seven people arrested for breaching the Children’s Act

Seven men and a woman were nabbed in an intelligence-led exercise, over the weekend, by officers of the Child Protection Unit (CPU), Special Operations Response Team (SORT) and Tobago Task Force.

The TTPS said they were expected to appear before Central, Sangre Grande and Scarborough Magistrates, today, Monday 27th January, 2020. The offences range from sexual penetration of a child, sexual touching of a child and having knowledge of sexual penetration of a child and failing to report it. 

According to the TTPS: “These offences are all contrary to the Children’s Act 46:01. During January 25th – 26th, 2020 an island-wide exercise spearheaded by W/Superintendent (Ag) George, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Ag) Sookdeo and supervised by Inspectors (Ag.) Boodoo and Baptiste, W/Sgt. Morton of the CPU, with the assistance of SORT, Tobago Taskforce resulted in the arrest of the suspects from the Central, Eastern and Tobago Divisions.”

These arrests now bring the total number of persons charged for breach of the Children’s Act for 2020 to 28.
