Social Development Ministry Receives Over 3,000 Flood Relief Applications

By Newsroom

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services is assessing losses incurred in communities such as Bamboo #2, Mafeking, Woodland and Barrackpore, as a result of last week’s inclement weather.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry says this will make it easier to process payments of claims.

To date, there have been 3,246 grant applications for flood relief.

People making claims are required to produce some form of national identification and evidence of their loss, which must be validated by their relative Disaster Management Unit or Ministry field officers.

The Ministry has also clarified that people who are eligible to make claims for losses through their insurance companies will not be considered for disaster relief grants.
