Twenty-four people were arrested and two firearms and quantities of ammunition were seized, by officers during the ongoing State of Emergency Operations in the Central, Northern Central and Port of Spain Divisions yesterday.
According to a statement from the TTPS, an anti-crime exercise was conducted in the Couva district, between 6 pm and 8 pm, on Monday 21st January 2025, during which officers stopped and searched a green coloured Nissan Almera motor vehicle with two male occupants.
The search resulted in the discovery of one revolver and four rounds of ammunition.
The vehicle’s two occupants, a 61-year-old and a 25-year-old, both of Freeport, were arrested in connection with the find.
In the North Central Division, an intelligence-led operation was conducted between 5:30 am and 8:30 am, yesterday, which involved officers of the Task Force Areas East and West, the Arouca Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the St. Joseph CID. During the exercise, officers proceeded to the St. Augustine district, where they searched the home of an 18-year-old male suspect.
The search resulted in the discovery of three magazines and a quantity of ammunition hidden in a bedroom of the house. The suspect was arrested in connection with the find. In the Port of Spain Division, several searches were conducted at the Duncan Street and Nelson Street Plannings and several priority offenders targeted.
The Operation resulted in the seizure of a pistol and a quantity of ammunition and the arrest of 21 suspects for varying offences including, firearm and shooting offences, robbery and the larceny of electricity.
Investigations into all of the above matters are ongoing.
