Special Domestic Violence Unit to be launched on January 21

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith has announced that a Gender-Based Unit will be launched on January 21st as the police tries to combat the myriad of domestic abuse cases in the country. According to police statistics there have been at least 579 breaches of restraining orders and about 168 people, mostly women have been killed through some form of domestic abuse. The soon to be established unit will directly tackle this problem and will be responding immediately to calls of domestic abuse.

Griffith also revealed that members of the unit have been specially trained by an international agency which has experience in reducing domestic violence cases. They are based in New York.
