St. Lucians Head To The Polls On July 26

By Newsroom

In just under three weeks, St. Lucians will go to the polls to elect a new government.

Prime Minister Allan Chastanet announced July 26th as the island’s General Election Date, during a national address which aired on Monday night.

Nomination Day is July 16th.

Chastanet, who has served as Prime Minister since being elected in 2016 with the United Workers Party (UWP), will go up against the leader of the country’s main Opposition party, Mr. Phillip Pierre.

This is the first time the Opposition Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) will be led into the elections by Mr. Pierre, a former deputy Prime Minister.

He takes over from Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony.

In 2016, PM Chastanet and the UWP won 11 of the 17 seats at stake.
