St. Vincent and the Grenadines has recorded its first case of the Covid-19 virus. The country’s Minister of Health, Wellness & the Environment, Robert T.L.V. Browne, made the announcement a short while ago.

The person is a female and has been described as an imported case, as she previously travelled to the United Kingdom, which has more than 200 cases of the virus currently. She has been described as a young person between 30-35 years old.

Browne said that the woman went to health authorities after she exhibited flu like symptoms. Her case has also been described as a mild case of Covid-19 and Browne added that she is expected to make a full recovery. She is currently in isolation at her home and is being monitored by health officials.

He also gave the assurance that the necessary precautions are being taken at the country’s hospitals to deal with the virus. Measures, including correct protective gear, testing equipment and an isolation centre are being looked into.

Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Simone Keizer-Beache, said that the patient’s contacts will be quarantined for the next 14 days and if they display any sign of illness, they will be tested. She urged the country to follow the established hygiene protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
