Suspect In Custody After Acid Attack On High Street Vendor

By Newsroom

A female suspect is in police custody awaiting formal charges after allegedly carrying out a vile acid attack on a fellow High Street vendor in San Fernando.

The victim, Charmaine Celestine, was operating her business along High Street in front of First Citizens’ Bank, when the woman- who also operates her street stall a short distance- is said to have approached Celestine and poured the acid in her face.

Police officers who were nearby responded and rushed Celestine to the hospital while the suspect was immediately arrested and taken to the San Fernando police station.

Several witnesses were interviewed and investigators also seized a white plastic bottle which had a label indicating it was muriatic acid.

The woman is expected to be charged with throwing a noxious substance with intention of doing grievous bodily harm.
