Two suspected car thieves were shot and killed by police following a high speed chase on Sunday.

Officers of the Western Division received a report about a missing Kia van yesterday afternoon, however as they tried to intercept the vehicle along the Eastern Main Road, the occupants opened fire on them.

A statement from the TTPS said in keeping with the Use of Force Policy, the officers returned fire, hitting the two men.

The suspects were rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, however they succumbed to their injuries.

Investigators seized two firearms from the stolen vehicle.
