SWMCOL: Tyres Still Being Collected For Recycling At Transfer Station

By Newsroom

Full operations at the Solid Waste Management Company Limited’s Transfer Station in Port of Spain are still down after a fire which took place in July.

However, the company says it is still collecting End of Life tyres and other unusable or unconsumable products for recycling, after its Sea Lots transfer station was damaged by fiery protests earlier this year.

SWMCOL says operations were halted on July 4th following civil unrest by Beetham Gardens, with air quality tests deeming the site was safe for workers to resume duties on July 13th.

However, the company says the site needs to undergo remediation to meet the international standards associated with good working conditions, including the fences, access gate, welfare facility, storage containers, and multimillion-dollar shredder.

SWMCOL says it is working assiduously on repairing the damaged assets in a timely manner.
