Ten Children Hospitalized With Covid, PMO Reveals

Two more children have been hospitalized with Covid-19, bringing the number of children warded at this time to ten in total.

This was revealed by Principal Medical Officer, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards, during Saturday’s Covid-19 media briefing. 

“Of these 10 children, one is receiving ICU (Intensive Care Unit) care, one is receiving HDU (High Dependency Unit) care and eight are receiving ward care,” Dr. Abdool Richards said, describing the trend as “a cause for concern”.

The overall hospital occupancy in Trinidad sits at 38%, which Tobago is at 40%, the Principal 

The only hospitals that are above the 75% threshold are the Augustus Long Hospital is at 79% and the Point Fortin Hospital.

Overall ICU levels across the parallel healthcare system are at 76%, with HDU at 34%. 

Noting the number of patients becoming extremely sick with the virus, health officials have once more called for people to get vaccinated to prevent severe illness requiring hospitalization.
