Terri Lyons is Calypso Monarch 2020

By Newsroom

Terri Lyons was crowned the  2020 National Calypso Monarch on Thursday night as, for the first time ever, women grabbed the top three spots in the competition.

Commanding the big stage at the Queen’s Park Savannah the daughter of soca icon Austin “Superblue” Lyons earned her title with a performance of  “Obeah” in the first round and then “Meghan My Dear” in the second as the competition reverted to the old format where the calypsonians were required to sing two songs.

Lyons is a better-known contender in the soca arena but has straddled both the soca and calypso, admirably,  for several years. And her father made an appearance on stage when she performed her first number “Obeah”.

Karene Asche, a 2011 calypso monarch placed second while a forever-finalist who has never taken the crown Heather Mac Intosh finished in third place.

Brian London, who was crowned the ex0-tempo champion the night before, came in the fourth place, literally the fieriest among the men in the competition.

And the 2019 monarch Ronaldo London placed 12th. See the Full Results below:
