Three Cops Arrested For Trafficking in Minors

By Newsroom

Three police officers have been arrested on suspicion of trafficking in persons and being a gang member.

They are all attached to the Central Division. This brings to four the number of police officers in that division who have been investigated for both crimes.

There was a similar exercise on the 10th February 2020, where one policeman and Venezuelan nationals were arrested and later charged with various offences.

“The homes and the lockers of the three policemen were searched and cell phones were among the items seized,” according to a press release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

“During the exercise, one of the police officers complained of chest pains and was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The three police officers and the civilian held today are being questioned about the trafficking of persons, mainly minors, from Venezuela,” the TTPS stated.

The exercise was carried out by the Counter-Trafficking Unit, with the support of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) and the Special Operations Response Team (SORT).
