Police have arrested three people and seized three firearms, along with quantities of ammunition, during operations conducted in the Southern Division yesterday.
According to the TTPS, at approximately 9:10 pm on 5th November 2024, officers of the Southern Division Task Force were on an anti-crime operation along the San Fernando By-Pass when they observed a speeding vehicle and signalled for it to stop. Upon conducting a search of the vehicle and the driver, they discovered a brown revolver and two rounds of .38mm ammunition in his shoulder bag.
The items were seized, and the 28-year-old driver, from 6th Company Circular Road, Indian Walk, was arrested. Earlier, officers from the La Romain Police Post were on patrol along Hector Street, La Romaine, when they spotted a man wanted in connection with a series of robberies and shootings in the area.
Upon seeing the officers, the 26-year-old man, from Hector Street, La Romain, turned and walked quickly towards his premises. The officers called out to him, he then tossed a bag into an open lawn area. The officers retrieved the bag, which contained 156 grammes of cannabis, and upon searching the suspect, found a revolver with two rounds of .38mm ammunition. The firearm and the narcotics were seized, and the suspect was arrested and conveyed to the San Fernando Police Station.
In a separate operation, officers observed a man known to them walking along Hector Street, La Romain. Upon looking in the direction of the officers, he quickened his pace and attempted to enter the gate of a house, which aroused their suspicion. The officers approached the man and conducted a search of his person.
During the search, they found a Beretta .380 pistol with a magazine containing one round of .380mm ammunition. The items were seized, and the 28-year-old man from Hector Street, La Romain, was arrested and taken to the San Fernando Police Station.
Enquiries into these matters are ongoing.
