Tobago Records First Covid-19 Death In 8 Months

By Newsroom

A 62 year old woman from Tobago became the island’s first Covid-19 death in eight months.

A statement from the Health and Wellness Division of the THA said the elderly woman, who died on Sunday, also had pre-existing conditions.

Commenting on the fatality, Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development, Tracy Davidson-Celestine urged Tobagonians not to become relaxed in their attitude towards the virus.

“No one should have to die due to this virus. The staff did all they could, and our hearts go out to the family and loved ones… This should be a wake-up call for Tobagonians. We need to be vigilant and look out for everyone. This is not a joke, every life we lose is precious. The vaccine and proper mask-wearing are our main lines of defence. Sanitizing and keeping six feet away are critical,” she said.

“We need people to get vaccinated and stay home, what we don’t need are more people to die,” The Secretary added.

No new cases have been reported in Tobago over the last 24 hours, with one recovery leaving 57 active cases.
