Tobago’s Chief Secretary Will Step Down.

By Newsroom

Kelvin Charles (left) will step down as Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly at the end of April.

This is a consequence of weekend talks brokered by the politick leader Dr with Rowley, after fractious elections for the leader of the Tobago Island Council of the Peoples’ National Movement.

The post of the political leader of the island council was won by Tracey Davidson Celestine ( at right in photo) who returned from her posting as T&T Ambassador in Costa Rica to contest the position.

At a news conference this afternoon, it was explained that Davidson- Celestine will be made a Councillor – and Secretary on March 1st, which will facilitate her rise to become the Chief Secretary, under the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Act.

There are three councillors to be appointed by the Chief Secretary. One of the three will be removed to make way for Mrs Davidson-Celestine. The fate of the other two will be decided by the end of April.

Until then Davidson Celestine said she will  hold meetings with Charles for the next two months, which will be a transition period.

The Election for a new executive of the Tobago Island Council was held on January 20th.
