Top Cop Questions “Strange” Focus On Dead Suspects In Andrea Bharatt Case

By Newsroom

On the heels of the Police Complaints Authority launching an investigation into the deaths of two leading suspects in the Andrea Bharatt case, Police Commissioner Gary Griffith says he finds it “strange” that no one has expressed concern for his officers, who were also injured during the exchange with the men.

Andrew Morris and Joel Balcon were hospitalized after being subdued by officers after they were arrested last Sunday. They died one week apart.

In a statement on Tuesday afternoon, the Top Cop said “Concern must also be shown for these servicemen and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect this country from the criminal elements.”

The PCA investigation will seek to find out whether the Special Operations Response Team officers who detained and subsequently subdued the suspects had used excessive force in discharging their duties, leading to their deaths.

Three other suspects detained in connection with Bharrat’s kidnapping and murder remain in the custody of police at this time.
