Transport Ministry Extends Moratorium For New Tint Regulations

By Newsroom

An extended three-month moratorium is being offered for motorists, before the Ministry of Works and Transport begins enforcing the new Tint Regulations.

The law, which was passed back in August of last year, will now come into effect on June 6th, and imposes a $2,000 fine for breach, along with three demerit points.

Drivers who contest their fixed penalty notice, however, can be fined up to $5,000.

Under the new law, vehicle’s windows must have the following minimum levels of visible light transmittance: front windscreen 70 per cent; windscreen’s anti-glare band 35 per cent; each front window (including side wing/ side window) 35 per cent; each rear window (including side window) and rear windscreen 20 per cent.

Just earlier this week, the Ministry of Works and Transport had to correct misinformation being shared across social media, which alleged that drivers could face a $30,000 fine for non-compliance as it relates to the New Windscreen and Window Tint Regulations.

Minister Rohan Sinanan said it was partially due to this misinformation confusing drivers, that he had chosen to grant the extension.
