T&T Chamber Pleased With Return To “Sustainable Economic Landscape”

By Newsroom

The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce is well pleased with government’s decision to transition to Phase Three of its reopening on June 1st.

It comes after the Chamber heavily criticized Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley’s initial announcement on May 9th, about plans for a phased reopening which began on May 11th. At the time, it described the plan as “risk averse”.

With the timeline moved up for  businesses to  resume operations, the Chamber, in a statement on Saturday, commended government on its management of the virus adding that “now it is time to focus on livelihoods responsibly”.

On this end, the organization is imploring the business community to diligently follow the public health and safety protocols as advised by the Ministry of Health. In an effort to further support the Government and its members, it recently launched a new COVID-19 Information Resources page on its website, with a collection of official local, regional and International documents  (https://chamber.org.tt/covid-19-resources)

Here’s a reminder of the changes that come into effect when Phase Three begins on June 1st:

-Public Servants return to work. Managers are required to report to work daily and other staff on a schedule basis.

-Retail stores can reopen, as well as malls and bookstores. All stores must close at 6pm daily.

-Caribbean Airlines (CAL) will provide more flights between Trinidad and Tobago.

-The National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) will resume operations.

-While in-dining remains banned, hotels will be permitted to facilitate outdoor dining services.

-Public gatherings remain at five, including funerals.

-Public transport will continue to operate at 50% capacity.
