T&T Engages Mexico For Covid-19 Vaccines

By Newsroom

A meeting held between Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, Dr. Amery Browne and Rosario Asela Molinero Molinero, Mexican Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, is hoped to be the first step which could see Mexico donating Covid-19 vaccines to Trinidad and Tobago and by extension, CARICOM.

This conversation, which took place on Friday, came on the heels of the announcement made earlier this week by the Foreign Minister of Mexico regarding the intention to share COVID-19 vaccines with other countries, which Minister Browne welcomed as a signal of hope to small countries that have been excluded from obtaining vaccines because of the large orders placed by bigger countries with resources to make such purchases.

“Both parties acknowledged that Trinidad and Tobago and Mexico share the view that the equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines is critical to managing the spread of the virus and revitalizing their respective economies,” a statement from T&T’s Foreign Affairs Ministry read.

Minister Browne also used the meeting as an opportunity to express his appreciation for Mexico’s COVID-19 related assistance to the Latin American and Caribbean region, particularly for ventilators donated to Trinidad and Tobago, two of which arrived earlier this year and two of which are expected to arrive next week.
