Official Government Release:

Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs, presented the Honourable Terrence Deyalsingh, Minister of Health, with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) donated by the Government of the People’s Republic of China at a brief handover ceremony hosted at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs on 8th September, 2020.

The PPE, which includes protective suits, disposable isolation gowns and shoe covers, was a second donation of equipment received from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in keeping with the commitment made by the People’s Republic of China during the Special Vice-Ministerial Meeting Among Ministries of Foreign Affairs of China and The Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations with China on COVID-19 convened on 11th May, 2020. Minister Browne affirmed that the collaboration between Trinidad and Tobago and China in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic was a further testament to the partnership between both countries.

Noting the challenge posed by the spread of the coronavirus and the work of the Ministry of Health in ameliorating the potential impact on the national community, Minister Browne expressed hope that the donated PPE would contribute to the work of local medical professionals.

Minister Browne ended by emphasising that the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs would continue to be a strong ally and supporter of the national response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
